Zoning Ordinance Updates | Zoning Reform:
Industrial District Regulations Update (Hayward, CA)
The 2040 Hayward General Plan recognizes the City’s Industrial Technology and Innovation Corridor as an important economic asset. Plan policies seek to protect and enhance the industrial area in order to expand the City’s economic and employment base, and support land use changes that help Hayward transition from a solely distribution-based economy to a manufacturing-, information- and technology-based economy. To facilitate this transition, Lexington Planning worked with RRM Design Group to update the City’s Industrial District Regulations: refining definitions, revisiting design and development standards, clarifying expectations for site improvements, managing undesirable uses, and encouraging redevelopment of underutilized properties. The project included outreach to businesses, brokers, property owners, decision-makers, and community members. The Ordinance went into effect in 2019.
